Warriors of Faith

Shaheed Bhai Anokh Singh Ji Babbar

31st August is Shaheedi Diwas of three great Shaheeds of Khalsa Panth, Bhai Sahib Bhai Anokh Singh ji Babbar, Bhai Dilawar Singh ji Babbar and Bhai Gurjant Singh ji Rajasthani. All Shaheeds are respectful, irrespective of which Jathebandi they belonged to, what actions they did and how they laid down their life. It’s not in hands of a Shaheed to choose form of death; it is pre-ordained destiny, karam of a Shaheed which takes him to the Eternal moment of Glory- Moment of Shaheedi.
Shaheeds live on this world as soldiers of God, fulfilling their duties assigned by Waheguru Akaal Purakh.

Bhai Anokh Singh ji was one such great soul who was loved and blessed by Guru Parmeshwar and Singhs across all Jathebandis respected him and loved him. He worked as an Inspector in SGPC and here he came in Sangat of Bhai Fauja Singh ji and started attending Khalsa Farm of Bhai Sahib, where Simran sessions, Shastarvidya Abhyaas and Gurmat vichars were carried out by Gursikhs. After Bhai Fauja Singh ji and 12 other Singh’s Shaheedi in 1978, Bhai Sahib along with other Gursikhs got together and took upon the sewa of punishing the enemies of Panth under leadership of Bhai Talwinder Singh ji Parmar, inspired by Sant Baba Jarnail Singh ji.

Bhai Sahib had great love for Singhs of Damdami Taksal and Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. Infact, it was Bhai sahib only who had gone to Santji in Akaal Takhat Sahib on night of 4th June 1984 to take arms and ammunitions for Babbar Singhs when ammunition of Babbar Singhs had finished on their morchas at Gurudwara Baba Attal Rai. Santji had said lovingly,’Anokh Singha, take as much ammunition you want, you all are my brothers, but still I wish you break the Ghera(cordon) and leave the complex. Panth needs you and your guidance after all this (Bluestar) ends’’.

Bhai Sahib said, Sat bachan Santji, we’ll fight till the last bullet, and if I survive till then, I’ll move out and carry on the mission you have entrusted upon us. Saying this Bhai Sahib left Akaal Takhat Sahib and left Darbar Sahib Complex on night of 5th June. Bhai Sahib was the last Babbar to leave Darbar Sahib Complex. Afterwards he worked as an ideologue of Babbar Khalsa and spiritual guide to hundreds of Babbar Singhs. He was the main Singh responsible alongwith Bhai Sukhdev Singh ji for removing the tag of Babbars being Jatha of Akhand Kirtani Singhs. During his sewa, he walked along with whole Panth, Singhs of all Jathebandis and backgrounds were welcomed in Babbar Khalsa, given they believed in Panthic Unity, Charhdi kala and struggle for freedom. He was very close to Bhai Sukhdev Singh ji Sakheera of Damdami Taksal as Bhai Sakheera’s sister was married to Bhai Anokh Singh ji’s brother Bhai Santokh Singh, and had planned and carried out many actions jointly with Bhai Sakheera. Bhai Sukhdev Singh attained Shaheedi in May 1986.

Bhai Sahib Ji was arrested on 20th August 1987 from Vairowal in Amritsar. He was the biggest catch for Punjab Police till date from Babbar Khalsa. He was tortured badly but Bhai Sahib didn’t give up on Sikhi sidak and well-being of his brothers who were fighting for Panth. His Shaheedi reminisces that of Bhai Sahib Bhai Mani Singh ji. Bhai Sahib’s thighs were cut open; salt was thrown on his wounds, his knees broken, his stomach pierced with hot iron rods, electric current was passed through wounds of his stomach and private parts of his body. After heavy torture when he didn’t give up, Amritsar police shifted him to Patiala. Most of the people don’t know, but it’s a fact that Bhai Anokh Singh ji was killed by Patiala police. A Singh who was part of movement told me this horrifying story. SSP of Patiala that time had ordered his Shaheedi to be video graphed.

(The Singh I met told me how Patiala police used to show his torture video to people arrested, after seeing which most of the people used to give up. But for those who had Guru’s mercy on them, the video worked in an opposite way. He told that Bhai Sahib didn’t cry, didn’t shout, didn’t say any word of helplessness, didn’t ask the butchers to leave him, instead as he was tortured, glow on his face increased, the blood on his body shined more, and his smile grew with name Waheguru. It served as an inspiration to others, that if Bhai Sahib ji can bear so much pain with smile and Waheguru on his lips, why cant they? The singh and his father were both arrested and shown that video, which gave them power to endure pain and suffering on path of Guru, whereas week hearted gave up only after seeing initial stages of torture. Singh’s father was tortured heavily, whereas he himself had to face handicap and impotence after torture.)

The way Bhai Sahib was killed was the most brutal in present times. His fingers were cut tip by tip. His body was cut open, eyes gouged out but Bhai Sahib had just one word on his tongue, Waheguru. But this one word also irked the butcher Punjab police, so they cut off Bhai Sahib ji’s tongue. They thought they had stopped his simran, ended his love for his Guru, but fools didn’t know that Brahmgiani Gursikhs don’t need Body to do Simran. Their Surat is attached to Shabad all the time, and Bhai Sahib ji’s rom rom started saying Waheguru. At last after so much brutality, when Bhai Shaib ji didn’t give up and didn’t tell police any secrets of Mission, Babbar Khalsa or whereabouts of fellow brothers, police shot him dead. Bhai Sahib’s badly mutilated body was thrown in River Beas. They killed a person, but his Love, his memories, his sacrifice, his faith, his dedication still inspires and will inspire generations of Sikhs for centuries, who’ll always remember Bhai Sahib ji as a Anokha(unique) Marytr of Sikh Panth. Bhai sahib was loved by all and he’s still loved by all, irrespective of Jathebandis and Dals. His personality and jeevan was so great that all felt oneness with him.

This Panth needs Gurmukhs like Bhai Anokh Singh ji Babbar who had the ability to rise above groupism and sectarianism, unite their self with the mission Guru gave him and stayed committed and truthful to his Faith and beliefs. Whenever the Holy Blood of Gursikhs like Bhai sahib is spilled, Warriors are born who take the Holy sword in their hands and destroy the butchers of humanity and uproot evil empires.

Parnaam Shaheedan Nu

Sri Akaal ji Sahai

A Jhujaroo Singh talks to his Mother

Simran is the Key- Baba Nand Singh Ji

One Pooranmashi, Baba Nand Singh Ji shared these bachans with Sangat -

'' Gaaviaa suniaa thin kaa har thhaae paavai, jin sathigur kee aagiaa sath sath kar maanee
Their singing and listening is approved by the Lord; they accept the Order of the True Guru as True, totally True.

- Guru Ram Das Ji, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 669

A husband who lived in a distant land, once wrote a letter to his
wife and family, asking them to ensure certain tasks he instructed were
complied with. Everyone in the family read and listened to what was
written in the letter, but the letter was neatly folded away into a
corner in the cupboard. Twice daily, the wife would respectfully ensure
the letter was well kept and would read it over and over. In affection
of her husband, she would even pay her respects to the letter by burning
incense, like one would do before the image of a deity. Day and night,
she would wrap the letter in a beautiful, clean cloth and would bow to
the letter.

When the husband returned after many many years, and
asked his family whether they had received his letter, they all replied
that they did. The head of the house went on further to ask whether the
tasks he had asked had been complied with. But the family replied that
they had taken great care of his letter and reverently paid their
respects of love. The husband then told his family that the purpose of
sending the letter was not to be kept reverently in safety, but had sent
to ensure that the tasks asked were to be done without fail. The family
had failed to comply with even a single instruction written in the
letter. In disappointment, the man of the house stated that their taking
of his letter was of no use to him.

This is exactly the message in what Guru Ram Das Ji says
in the above shabad. In the complete writings of Guru Granth Sahib Ji,
man is instructed over and over, to recite the Name of Waheguru.

bhajahu guobi(n)dh bhool math jaahu
Vibrate, and meditate on the Lord of the Universe, and never forget Him.
maanas janam kaa eaehee laahu
This is the blessed opportunity of this human incarnation.

- Bhagat Kabir Ji, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 1159

What Bhagat Kabir Ji is saying in the above shabad is
that the human birth has been blessed to us for the sole purpose of
remembering Waheguru in meditation. Every sant, mahapursh, gyani and
other spiritually elevated beings remind us, ‘Naam Jappo’ as this is the
first instruction of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. ''

baba-nand-singh1.jpgbaba-isher-singh1.jpg

Baba Nand Singh Ji used to encourage the Sikhs to recite
at least one complete reading of Guru Granth Sahib Ji – be it by
beginning with as many recitations one can do of Naam Jap on the mala,
Japji Sahib or Sukhmani Sahib. Many Sikhs get attached to other things
and overlook the need to recite Naam that each one of us are instructed
to do.

naam tul kachh avar na ho-ay
There is nothing equal to the Naam

- Guru Arjan Dev Singh, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 265

Some Sikhs even pay Granthis and Gyanis and book Akhand
Paaths in the hope that this seva will be accepted in the True Lord’s
Court. This only amounts to a pious deed, whereas doing our Nitnem and
meditating on the Name of God is what gets recorded as our aatmic kamaai
(spiritual earning). To forsake our Nitnem (which every Sikh has been
instructed to do daily) and think that seva of anything else (like
booking Akhand Paaths and other Gurudwara seva) is acceptable, is a
grievous misunderstanding.

Once a communist remarked to Baba Isher Singh Ji that
the latter did not consider the former his equal. In return, Baba Ji
asked the communist, ‘How can I consider myself equal to you? You eat
meat, drink alcohol and consume all sorts of junk and then you do not
even come close to Simran (meditation). Tell me, what connection do you
and I have? Our connection is only with those that have forsaken
falsehood, gossip, jealousy and the consumption of meat. One can only be
free of these vices only if he/she practices Simran. Simran can be done
and maintained only when we contemplate on the teachings of our Gurus.’

The communist further remarked that to be free of so
many vices is next to impossible. BabaJi then said to him, ‘If you
cannot forsake your vices, then comply with just one of my instructions –
regularly recite your Nitnem and meditate on the Name of Waheguru. If
there is any strength in the sincerity of your Simran, then the vices
will be eradicated on their own. And if one does not comply with my
instruction of Simran, then I cannot have even the slightest connection
with that person.’

The virtue of Simran and Sangat can only be acquired
through reading and listening to the instruction of our Gurus. Those
that merely wear the robes of religion and divinity and yet from within
have no spiritual earnings (kamaai of Naam Simran, Nitnem and vices
forsaken) and are oppiste of what they show outside, will have wasted
their human birth. Those that have forsaken their Nitnem, Sangat and
Simran, consider that Kalyug (Age of Darkness) is seated on their chests
and it is Kalyug that is stopping them from engaging in the remembrance
of Waheguru’s Name.

Like the family that merely preserved and respected the
letter from the head of the family but did not heed what was being
instructed to them, likewise, we need to look unto ourselves and see if
that is what we are doing too. If we are merely reading Gurbani and not
trying to understand what the Guru is asking of us to do, it is to no
avail. There is no use of covering Guru Granth Sahib Ji in all its
expensive and royal coverings and bowing down in obeisance when we take
little or no heed of even doing our Nitnem and going to the Gurudwara to
earn the blessings of the Guru in Sadh Sangat.

If we step on the first rung of Guru’s teachings – that
is listening to what the Guru says – then a day will come when we will
be worthy of stepping onto the next rung – that of accepting what the
Guru has instructed us to do.

A memory of Baba 'Tiger Force Wala'

Someone remembers a person called Baba Gurbachan Singh Manochahal?

Well, He was Sant -Sipahi son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. Jathedar of Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib, Jathedar of Panthic Committe and Jathedar of BTFK.

He was ordered by Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa to carry forward Sikh Resistance Movement in his absence, and Babaji stayed true to bachans of Taksal Mukhi, fighting till last breath.

His priority was Freedom of Panth from slavery and that was his Only Mission and Dream......He never looked for Jathedari or Fame, what Panth gave him, He accepted and when Panth ordered him for any sewa, He served Panth as a Sewadar, not Jathedar.

He Wanted Ekta in all Jathebandis fighting for Panth, and didnt even fire a shot at his Sikh Brothers even after they killed his real Brother due to a wrong information. That was his Sidak and Santokh.

When Bhai Sukhdev Singh attained Shaheedi, people saw tears in his eyes. They asked why are you crying as Jathedar (Sukhdev Singh) had differences with you?

And Baba replied, What if we had differences, still he was my Brother.

He never allowed a Baraat of more than 11 members from his family or from anyone of his Jathebandi's Singh's side or any useless spendings on marriages. Looking at his example, hundreds of simple marriage ceremonies were held in Majha Region which he attended and where he used to bless the newly-wed couples.

He never celebrated Diwali or other festivals in his household. He used to say, My sisters were raped, my brothers were butchered and are still being killed, How can i Celebrate and Enjoy these festivals and new years? He even wrote a Poem sharing his Pain and anguish, a poem which showed how much dard he carried in his heart of his Kaum.

My friends will be waiting For my New Year greetings wishing them happiness,

Oh my friend! How can I wish happy New Year to you,

As yet I still have to guard my heritage under constant threat of humiliation.

The turban of my Father is rolling somewhere in the dust,

It might be waste in the dark corner of some police station.

After the murders of our mothers and sisters, tears have been unceasing.

Our innocent boys who are soft as flowers lie beneath the bridges, below the trees murdered in false encounters.

Our sister's honor remains unavenged since the Delhi massacre,

I am in great and constant grief like the tender butterfly that flutters and turns white with fear,

whose wings have turned Grey with the passing of time.

In this struggle I may not be recognized and may get lost,

And in this dreadful situation in what way can I then convey my New year greetings to you.

We will wait for better times.

Then shall I send such greetings When Spring visits our garden !!

He always asked Sangat to support families of Shaheeds with all the means they have. He didn't just fight, he made sure that those who fight and die for Panth, their families are looked after well, their children go to school and their daughters get married with Honor.

He could have escaped from Battlefield, but even when he knew that death was imminent, He was heard singing in streets of villages and sidewalks of Wheat Fields in Punjab

''Sir ditteya baajh nahi rehna dharam sir ditteya Baajh nahi rehna''

His Father, His Mother, His brother, His nephews were killed, but he didnt budge from his Path of Revolution.

And One day he attained Martyrdom for Panth, sacrificing his life at altar of Truth, but prophesied that One day, Panth will defintiely have its Freedom, Its Raaj.

That was what Baba was ! Now look for yourself at Jeevan of those who claim to be leaders of Panth, Generals of Panth. See how they live, how they enjoy luxuries of life, how they talk about Shaheeds and Movement but can't tell what they want to do for Panth, they would give slogan of Khalistan to Youth, but will not tell how they plan to move. They are people who spend thousands and thousands of Pounds and Dollars and Rupees on marriages of their children, make sure their children stay safe and away from so-called Movement, but dont help Shaheed families in Punjab. And there are those who want Singhs living in Punjab to rise, fight and die, but dont wish to speak even a word in their favour while sitting in western countries. These are the people who have turned their back towards Guru, towards Shaheeds and still call themselves Sikhs.

Where will we find Our Sant, Our Baba again? Dasmesh Pita knows best what plans he has for us, for his Panth!
