Warriors of Faith

Devi Pooja -2

The detractors of Chandi charittars and Chandi di vaar contend that Guru ji worshipped Durga in these baanis. They have the misconception that in Vaar Sri Bhagauti ji ki, Guru Gobind Singh ji has worshipped Durga and hence hold the belief that in the baani “Bhagauti” is a reference to Durga. It has been alleged that this is not the Baani of Guru Gobind Singh ji at all, but is the baani of a Shakat poet Shyaam, who created this deception in order to make Sikhs worshippers of Durga. The claim is, he took the name of Durga before Guru Nanak dev ji and wrote this Baani in name of Guru Gobind singh ji to deceive Sikhs and portary them as a part of Hindus. So firstly we’ll do vichaar whether the word Bhagauti really means Durga and whether she is really “worshipped” in Baani. In the beginning of Baani of Akaal Ustat, Guruji makes clear his views on Durga and other Gods. Guruji says,
In Shelter of his feet dwells Durga.
Neither Brahma (god of creation) nor Vishnu (god of preservation) comprehends his bounds.
Brahma, having four faces, proclaimed that the Lord is Infinite. (5

At the start of baani of Chandi di Vaar(as it is popularly known today) Guru ji says ‘Pritham Bhagauti simar ke’, this means first remember the Supreme Power, the Param Aaatma, the Super Soul and then Guru Nanak (Remember, in Hinduism, Devi has been reffered to as Bhagvati, not Bhagauti. These two are completely different words with different meanings). But if some one alleges no, Bhagauti is Durga, then we should go to second pauri of this baani. Here Guru ji says, O Supreme Mother (Bhagauti), first you created Khanda (an adjective for ‘Shabad’, ‘Word’, ‘Naam’). Out of Shabad you created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Then you created the oceans, mountains, earth and the skies. You created Devas and demons (good and bad) and made them to fight each other. Then you created Durga to vanquish demons! If Bhagauti means Durga, then how it is possible that Durga is creating Durga again. The answer is-   She Isn’t !Bhagauti is the one supreme mother of all, the Param Aatma and it is she who has created Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, Durga, Ram and Krishan. Here is the entire second pauri of Chandi di vaar.

Pauri (Stanza of an Epic)
At first, the Primeval Force (The Lord) created Khanda (Configuration of the two edges of sword signifying creation and destruction of the Universe) and then He originated the whole Universe.
Having created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, He composed the play of the cosmos and made it manifest.
He made the oceans, mountains and the earth and stabilized the sky without pillars.

He created demons and gods and caused contention between them.

O Lord! By creating Durga, You alone have caused destruction of demons by her.

Having received power from You, Rama killed Ravana with arrows.

Having acquired strength from You Krishna pulled Kansa's hair and dashed him down.

The great sages and deities, in order to perform austerities underwent suffering on their bodies for many ages.

None could find your end. (2)

There is a difference in worshipping someone and respecting, praising someone
There was and is a poetic tradition in Indian sub-continent that whenever a Sant or Poet started any composition, he/she would write about his/her God, in whom they believed and asked for their blessings. In Guru Granth Sahib ji, in the beginning, we have Mool Manatar, which is a beautiful explanation of Saroop (form) of Waheguru. Afterwards, at the start of every baani and raag, Guruji praised Waheguru and attributed the composition to Mercy of Waheguru ( Satgur Parsad). This was known as ‘Mangal’ or ‘mangala charan’.  Now let’s have a look at the Mangal of Baani of Chandi charittar. Guruji writes
After writing name of Baani, Chandi Charitra, Guru Gobind Singh ji writes,
‘There is but One wonderful Lord, the repository of enlightenment called Vaheguru and Victory is of the Lord.’
Where is the ‘worship of Durga’ here? Why didn’t the poet say ‘Jai Durga’ or something like that? He could not have, because the poet here is Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj.   Now in the first stanza of the baani, The Poet( Guruji) makes clear his concept of God and what he thinks about Gods and Goddesses. Guruji says,
The Supreme Lord is primeval, unbounded, indescribable, without end, immortal, guise less, imperceptible and indestructible.
By dint of His auspicious Power, Created innumebarable Shiv and Shaktis (Durga), He created four revelations (the Vedas), He has infused the three constituents of nature: Rajas (passion), Tamas (darkness) and Sattva (goodness) and dwells in the three worlds.
He created day and night and in order to illuminate them, He made the sun and the moon as lamps. He devised five elements and formed the whole universe.
He incites animosity between the gods and the demons to make them fight and while sitting apart, watches this play. (1)

If the composer of these Baanis was some one who believed in Durga to be All-powerful creator, why was he singing glory of Akaal Purakh? In the first line, all the names of Lord Akaal Purakh which have been used are present in Guru Granth Sahib ji. These lines of baani clearly prove the composer of this baani to be believer of One Supreme God, who is Guru Gobind Singh ji.

Guru ji again asks for knowledge and blessings from the Supreme power to write story of Chandika( Durga). If he was worshipping Durga, why was he asking for blessings from someone else to write story of Durga? Would he not have asked for the blessings of Durga herself in order to write the story of her battles?
O, the Ocean of mercy! If you shower a bit of your grace on me,
Then I may compose the story of Chandika (Durga). Help me so that this (poetic) composition may be befitting. (2)

Guru Gobind Singh ji did ardas to ‘Kirpa Sindhu’ (Ocean of Mercy, Waheguru) to bless him so that he could write story of Durga.
We can make out very clearly that Guru Gobind Singh ji was not worshipping Durga or asking for boons from her. Instead he was writing her story with the blessings of Akaal purakh Waheguru!

Now the question arises ‘Why Guruji wrote the story of Durga?’

When we look at the history of India before the time of our gurus, we don’t come across any great warrior icons that have selflessly fought for dharma. Ram fought for his wife and Krishna and Pandavs for their empire.

Guru ji wanted to inspire, wake up common man of India, to be able to stand up for his faith and against injustice. Before any type of empirical revolution, first the conscience and self-esteem of a human must wake up, so that when he goes to battlefield, he’s not afraid of death and most importantly he must have an icon to follow. He must have someone from whom he can draw his strength as a role model in a way. Today we have a rich history; we have Guru ji, Sahibazadey, Baba Deep singh ji, Baba Mani singh ji, Bhai Taru singh ji who gave their lives for dharma. There are millions of shaheed singhs whom we are proud to follow, whom we wish to emulate. We feel ready to walk on their footsteps, to fight in the battlefield like them. We feel pride to have a heritage containing so much selflessness that is why we listen to their history with so much passion; we listen to their Vaars (ballads) from Dhadhi Singhs.  Ever thought when Guru Hargobind Sahib ji built Akaal Takhat and started Dhaadi tradition, whose ballads dhadis used to sing at that time? They sang Vaars of ancient Rajput heroes who died fighting mughals, turks, pathans but didn’t give up their honour. They were not worshipping them, but singing their ballads as heroes of battlefield, who fought and died for honour.
When Guru ji looked at Indian history he didn’t find anyone, except Durga, who on the orders of Waheguru, fought selflessly for sake of mankind. Despite having so much power she didn’t start her own religion, and lived a life of self less service to humanity. She was the one whom Indians had been worshipping as a goddess for centuries, but they never tried to walk on her footsteps or understand what Durga really stood for?

The reality of the situation was that ninety percent of those who were becoming Sikhs were coming from Hindu backgrounds. Hindus woken up by Guru’s call for freedom and independence had accepted Gurus as their masters and those who became part of the spiritual revolution started by the Gurus became Sikhs.  In Baani, Maharaj uses the example of Durga to help awaken the Sipahi roop of sikhs. Guruji asked them, if Durga being a woman can ride a lion, why can you not ride a horse? If she can carry weapons in her eight hands, why can’t you in 2? If she can fight with millions of demons in battlefield alone, with Akaal Purakh’s blessings, why can’t you fight with those opposing your religious rights and freedom? He sang the Vaar of Durga, like a warrior praises another great warrior. He didn’t worship Durga as a goddess like Hindus; he praised her as a warrior woman. The Durga that Brahmins worship wears bangles in her hands; Durga of Guru Gobind Singh ji wears karras (bracelets) of iron. The Durga of a Brahmin wears sarree, Durga of Guruji wears Sarabloh armour. The Durga of Brahmin wears Mukat on her head, but Durga of Guruji wears Chakkars and Gajgah on her head.

So it’s just sheer foolishness or ignorance to doubt Gurbaani of Guru ji which inspires a Gursikh for Dharam yudh, the War for Truth. Thus baani chandi di vaar and chandi charritars was and is read by gursikhs from centuries. Gursikhs of Damdami Taksal, Akand kirtani jatha and other Panthic Jathebandis still read these baanis with love and respect.

Creating doubt about these baanis is only a ploy to de-weaponise, de arm and reduce the warrior spirit of Khalsa panth by removing these Baanis, full of Bir-ras, from the conscience of Panth.  What we need today is a correct and honest translation and vichaar of Baani, with Bibek-Budh blessed by Guru Granth Sahib ji, otherwise there is always a possibility of erroneous interpretations, which may lead to more confusion among Sikhs. And further confusion about Baani or Baana or Rehat is going to be harmful for Sikhs. So for unity and Charhdi kala of Panth, we should all devote some time in reading, understanding and doing vichaar on Baani of Guru Granth Sahib ji and Sri Dasam Granth Sahib ji so that our lives are blessed and we live them according to golden principles of Gurubaani.

Devi Pooja - 1

Sikhi-The religion of Guru Nanak is based on root principle of ONE. The digit 1 stands for One Supreme God. What follows are the qualities and glory of this < (Ik Oankaar). Guru Nanak’s Sikhi (not Sikhism) is based on Love and devotion for one supreme God, the One Supreme Power. Sikhi is a monotheistic Religion, and Guru Baani ,Bhagat Baani, Bhatt baani, compositions of Sikhs in Guru Granth Sahib and Sri Dasam Granth, vaara and Kabitt Sawaiye of Bhai Gurdas ji and Bhai Nand Laal ji are proof enough that Sikhs never worshipped anyone else except The One. If we start giving references and proofs from these compositions, it’ll be an endless list. So we’ll stick to the root principle, the base of Sikhi, The One, Ik Oankaar and do some vichaar.
Lately there has been a vicious propaganda against Baani of Guru Gobind Singh ji, that these compositions of Dasam Granth contain reverence for Hindu Gods and Goddesses, therefore they can not be Baani of Dasmesh pita. This mis-conception has also  been fuelled by some of our neo-scholars of Dasam baani( Nangs belonging to a sect) who have interpreted words like Kaalka, Bhagauti, Chandika, Kaal, Mahakaal for being Hindu deities Shiv and Parbati (Durga).

Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj is Supreme Guru of Sikhs. The concept of One enshrined in the Mool mantar at the beginning of Guru Granth Sahib forms the basis of any type of interpretation, translation or explanation of any Shabad or composition of Ten Gurus, as they were all here on this planet as representatives of  One Akaal Purakh, not various Gods and goddesses. If something is contrary to teachings of Guru Granth Sahib ji or Dasmesh pita, that cannot be accepted as a honest and pure translation of Baani. Guru Granth Sahib ji talks about One, the authority and supremacy of One, how the Supreme Power manifests itself in different forms, how it is all-pervading and omnipresent. Guru Granth Sahib takes us from duality to non-duality; it’s a journey in which we go through this world to reach our True-self.  It’s a process of identifying One’s real self, which is lost in duality of this creation. It’s a path which tell us that Waheguru is
Though you have many forms yet you are one. (43) (Sri Jaap)

There’s a big ideological difference between Sikh and Hindu concept of God. Hindus claim God takes form to remove evil from this world and to bless his Bhagats. Hindus started worshipping those different forms, forgetting the One who was at the Core of that form, the one who was the real power behind that form. Hindus say Vishnu blessed Dhruv, Prahlaad and people like Ajaamal and Ganika. They say Krishna blessed Bidar and Draupadi and killed Kansa. They claim it was Ram, son of Dasrath who killed Ravana and blessed the world. They refused to see power of One Waheguru working through these forms and started worshipping them. Hindu books praised Vishnu, Ram and Krishna as Gods who performed these actions and started worshipping them instead of The One, whereas Guru Nanak’s Sikhi attributes all these actions to One Waheguru.

Some people have interpreted Bhagauti, Shivaa, Kaalka as being Hindu Goddess Durga. In their translations of ancient texts, they have committed the same mistake, of considering Durga as the one whom Guru Gobind Singh ji worshipped, which goes against the Baani of Guru Granth Sahib ji and ideals of earlier nine gurus, and there is no way Guru Gobind Singh ji could have gone against principles of Guru Nanak dev ji. So who is this whom Guruji has actually worshipped and meditated upon?
It’s the same ‘Ik Oankaar’ whom Guru Nanak worshipped as Niranjan, Nirankaar, Raam, Hari and many other names. It’s the Father or Lord Form of Supreme Power, which is essentially genderless according to Gurmat. And when Guru Gobind Singh ji worshipped same ‘Ik Oankaar’- Supreme Power-Param Aatma as Mother, he used names like Kaalka, Bhagauti, Chandi and Shivaa. If earlier Gurus using names of Vishnu and his incarnations for Waheguru didn’t make us Vaishnav Hindus, Guru Gobind Singh ji using female names of Hindu goddesses doesn’t make us Shakat Panthi Hindus. We are Sikhs, Khalsa, who believe in One Supreme Power, One Param Aatma, and Guru Gobind Singh ji never worshipped anyone else other than Ik Oankaar. It’s just that he used a different form, a different style for writing praises of Waheguru, but his loyalty is for none other than Waheguru. These Shabads of Guruji’s Baani make this concept very clear.

Ten Gurus were One Light, One Jot, One Power, and they all had one mission, to awake the world in consciousness of Holy Naam, Shabad, so that all beings of this world and Universe are blessed and realize their true self, without any hindrance from anyone. Their mission was to create God-conscious people who’ll be one with Him, whose loyalty will lie with one god. They had understood that until fake ritualism wasn’t abolished and fake God and goddesses weren’t removed from conscience of masses, there can’t be a spiritual awakening, people can’t enjoy the bliss of Naam, enjoy the Freedom of spirituality. This was the reason Guruji taught people of this world the principle of Oneness of God and Humanity. Guru Nanak’s mission was to wake up humans to the reality, the truth, that Waheguru was all-pervading, eternal, infinite and supreme. They wanted to remove every hurdle between Param-Aatma and Aatma that had been created by cunning priests and Vikkars of mind. They wanted to wake up their Sikhs in Super-consciousness where they will be able to experience the Bliss of Naam and see their beloved God with them, around them. These two Shabads from Guru Granth Sahib ji and Dasam Granth Sahib ji explain this principle well.

Through Thy Grace, I Utter the Quatrain.
First of all, I bow down to the Immanent and Transcendental Lord
Who pervades in Waters, earth and throughout space.
He is the primordial Being, is without a body and is indestructible.
His light illumines the fourteen worlds. (1)
He dwells within a (gigantic) elephant as well as in a (diminutive) ant.
He reckons the King and the Pauper alike.
He is incomparable, unknowable and a Supreme Scholar of Realism.
He Knows the Inner thoughts and secrets of Every Heart. (2)
His Form is Invisible, Imperishable and without a Distinctive costume.
He is without attachment, without colour, without complexion and without outline.

He is not associated with the caste structure and symbols proclaimed thereof.
He is the origin of all mortals, is unequalled and changeless. (3)
He has neither caste marks, nor family class, nor sub caste.
He has neither foe, nor friends, neither Father, nor Mother
He is far away from all but is quite near, and immanent in the hearts of all.
He dwells in waters, on land and in interspace. (4)
His form (Configuration) is limitless and his melodious utterance is unstruck.
In Shelter of his feet dwells Durga (the goddess of power).
Neither Brahma (god of creation) nor Vishnu (god of preservation) comprehends his bounds.
Brahma, having four faces, proclaimed that the Lord is Infinite. (5)

So what we see is a perfect oneness in ideology and principles of All the Ten Gurus. If Guru Nanak dev ji or earlier Gurus didn’t worship Hindu Gods and Goddesses, there is no way Guru Gobind Singh ji could have done that, neither he did it.

It’s just because of ignorance or incomplete knowledge or some ulterior motives that people claim that in this Baani of Dasam Granth, Guruji has worshipped Devi or Devtas.

Did Guru Gobind Singh worship Devi?

One thing which needs to be cleared up is that fact that our Guru is Satguru Guru Granth Sahib ji. Sikhi Panth was started by Aad Guru Nanak Dev Sahib ji and all other Gurus preached and propagated words of Satguru Nanak. Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj, being tenth Master of Sikhs and Nanak Saroop said and did what Guru Nanak Dev ji said in His Baani. There is no way there can be a difference in Ideology of Ten Gurus as they are One Light, One Jot. Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj is Our Haazar Naazar Satguru and Dasam Granth Sahib is Baani of Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj. Anything written in ANY Historical Granth attributed to Gurus, which goes against principles of Ten Gurus and Guru Granth Sahib ji cannot be taken at Face value and should be seen as an attempt to pollute Pure Gursikhi Maarag of Guru Nanak Dev ji Maharaj. If there are certain incidents and words which have been ascribed to Gurus but are against Sikhi principles enshrined in Guru Granth Sahib ji, then those incidents and words need either deep vichaar in vidwaans or need to be ignored as ‘mix-up’ by Anti-Gursikhi forces. This is the only way Purity and Sanctity of Puratan Maryada can be preserved. Neo-Vidwaans (Nangs who preach Worship of Hindu Gods and Goddesses) and Detractors of  Puratan Maryada (missionaries etc.) need to do vichaar on contentious topics in light of Baani of Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Dasam Patshah Maharaj.

Question :-Did Guru ji take blessings of Goddess Durga to create Khalsa Panth?

Answer  :- No
Reason -  Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj was sent on this Planet by Akaal Purakh Waheguru Himself to create Khalsa Panth , The Path of Pure (or Brotherhood of Pure).
When Akaal Purakh blessed Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj with title of His Son and sent him to this Maat Lok ( Earth), Waheguru ji said –

Following Akal Purakh’s command, Guru Gobind Singh ji bowed before Waheguru and said -

So the Hukam and Blessings for creating Khalsa Panth was already given by Akaal Purakh Waheguru, therefore there was no need for Maharaj to ask for any boon from anyone else. That is the reason Maharaj gave us the slogan

‘’Waheguru ji ka Khalsa , Waheguru ji ki Fateh ‘’ and not ‘Durga ji ka Khalsa’’!

Question :- Did Guru Gobind Singh ji ever worship Durga Devi or any other Hindu God/Goddess?

Answer:- No.
Reason :-  Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj, in his pavittar Baani of Sri Dasam Guru Granth Sahib has time and again explained and declared that –

May I not forsake You and may I not meditate on anyone else except You. May I obtain from You, whatever gifts I want. (Chaupai Sahib)

Whatever I heard from the Lord of the world, I speak the same words.
I shall not suppress the divine truth for fear of mortal men.(33)

40॥ ji

These words of Sri Guru Gobind Singh  Maharaj  clearly define Faith and Loyalty of Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj, which is for ONE Akaal Purakh Waheguru and NO one else. Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj was Tenth Nanak and there is NO way Dasam Nanak would go against Sidhant of ‘Ik Oankaar’ and worship false Devis and Devtas whose worship has been clearly denounced in Baani of Guru Granth Sahib ji and Sri Dasam Granth Sahib.

Saakhi of Havan and Devi Pargat –

Guru Gobind Singh ji maharaj, before creation of Khalsa Panth tested Brahmins, Jogis and Masands at Sri Anandpur Sahib. In Itihaas, it is stated that Maharaj tested Brahmins twice and Masands thrice. Jogis were tested once and rejected as fake.
First test was done at Parbat of Naina Devi where a Havan was held by Pandits (led by Kesho Daas or Devi Daas or Kaalka Daas, as names are different in all texts). Pandits had asked Maharaj to hold a Havan as that would make Devi Durga appear and bless Maharaj with Shakti from to destroy Mughals from this planet. Guru ji understood the slave mentality of Pandits and to expose them, agreed to hold the Havan. Nine Months passed but NO Devi appeared. At last Guru ji asked the Mukhi Pandit the reason for Devi not appearing, to which pandit replied that Devi needs blood of a Holy Being, probably your Eldest Son Baba Ajit Singh and then she would appear.( Pandit said these words thinking that Guruji would refuse giving his Son’s life and we will put the blame for Devi not appearing on Guruji)

But Dasam Patshah smiled and replied, Pandit ji, tell me, who is more Holy and Pious than you? Lets give your Bali (sacrifice ) to Devi and when she appears, first thing I’ll ask her would be to revive you, give your life back. Pandit shivered with fear and started fumbling. Next minute he said to Maharaj ,’ I need to go for nature’s call and then I’ll return after Bath’’. Guruji let him go. Pandit ji and his Chele ran away from the Havan spot and never returned. When they didn’t return after some time, Guruji understood that Pandits have run away. Guruji ordered Singhs present to put all the Havan Samgari( Material used for Havan like Ghee, Woods, chandan kapoor etc.) into Havan Fire altogether. Singhs did this and a Large Flame of Fire rose from Havan Kund( due to all Samagri being thrown in fire at once). Guruji, in his Bir-Ras Form stood near the Fire and took out His Sword (which was called Sri Sahib) and rose it. People came running seeing the flame and asked Guruji, Maharaj, Has the Devi appeared? Guruji replied in Bir-Ras, Yes, and looking at his sword said ‘’ This is the Chandi , This is real Durga which vanquishes enemies in battlefield, this is the Kaalka which drinks blood of enemies and destroys them. This is the Bhagauti which protects Dharam and destroys evil’’.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj understood the slave and weak mentality of Brahmins and Hindus as whole and knew that from last 800 years, Hindus have been waiting for some Devi-Devta to appear and fight for them. But Maharaj knew that to attain freedom, to get Justice, to create Raaj of Dharam, Warriors have to fight in battlefields, blood has to be shed and Warriors have to undergo Pain and suffering and only then can freedom be achieved. Until common man does not takes up arms and fights for his rights and freedom in battlefield, NO Freedom can be achieved. Therefore Guruji rejected Hindu idea of Devi Pargat and declared His Kirpaan, The Sword as Supreme Devi (Sri Sahib) which would bring Victory.

This Saakhi has been given in this form in these Granths -
Tawarikh Guru Khalsa- Giani Gian Singh ji
Kalgidhar Chamatkaar –Bhai Vir Singh ji
Mahaan Kosh – Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha

( In all other Historical texts, only thing which is common is the fact that havan was done, but later story of Durga appearing and giving some Boon to Maharaj is entirely different. Some writers have said that Guruji fainted seeing Chandi , others say He closed his eyes, some say they cannot confirm IF Devi appeared but have written it as they heard from someone. So this fact itself proves that Devi didn’t appear but Havan was organized. Second thing which has to be kept in Mind is that texts written 45 years within Guru Gobind Singh ji went to sachkhand like Sri Gur Sobha and Vaar Sri Bhagauti ki(Bhai Gurdas Singh) DO NOT mention Devi Pargat incident, but which were written after 1753AD start the trend, in different ways although. This led to Saakhi of Guru ji cutting Goats during Vaisakhi of 1699 which later turned into Nang tradition of Chatka, Chandi Pooja and Shastar Tilak, which is in itself a Shaktik Hindu concept and Ritual and has got nothing to do with Sikh Spiritualism).

Gursikhs, taking inspiration from Baani of Aad Gurus and Dasam Guruji took up arms and fought a bloody war of 70 years and at last, freed Punjab and whole of North India from clutches of foreign invaders. If they also had waited for Chandi or Durga to appear like Hindus were waiting, India would have still been a Slave of Muslims.

Some quotes from Aad Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj regarding worship of Devis and Devtas.

Sri Mata Ajeet Kaur ji ( Mata Jeeto Ji)

(Note----As a child, in diwans, samagams and Katha vichars, I used to hear from Kathavachiks and Granthi Singhs that Mata Ajeet Kaur ji (Mata Jeeto ji) blessed Khande Baate da Amrit with Sweetness, when she put patase in it. But from last 15 years or so, things changed and the history was changed (knowingly or unknowingly) that Sri Mata Sahib Kaur ji was the one who put patase in Amrit da Baata and today everywhere I hear this thing, with Mataji’s name virtually wiped out from Amrit Sanchar process. This deeply disturbed me, as this trend of changing history and historical facts to suit our own modern day version of Sikhi is very dangerous and we Sikhs will have to face serious repercussions of this in coming future. To put the record straight, Daas has delved into Puratan Granths and am presenting before Sangat what we have in Puratan Granths regarding this certain historical incident. For some this might be a waste of time or people might question the need of writing this, but when we look at facts, we will understand value and importance of each and every historical incident, big or small. Who did what? Why? How? When? All these questions are an important part of history and make it. Any mixing up or twisting of facts can be dangerous for a nation or community to preserve purity of its traditions and history. With Mata Jeeto ji’s name removed from Amrit Sanchar, many people and organizations, working with ulterior motives have denied the existence of Mata ji as a separate individual. They say that Mata Jeeto ji and Mata Sundari ji were one historical figure, with two names. What can be more sad and painful than this that Sri Mata Ajeet Kaur ji’s very existence has been challenged? I hope working on these points; readers will understand the importance of this short note.)
(There are many other historical facts and incidents which have been changed and are being changed to suit ‘modern day’ Sikhi, which will be shared with Sangat at regular intervals. Benti to Sangat is , be aware of your history and stand guard on your precious history as there is nothing precious and important for a Sikh than the lifes and Kautaks of our Gurus and Mahapurakhs.)

Mata Ajeet Kaur ji ( Mata Jeeto Ji)--Mother of Khalsa Panth

Mahaan Kosh reference about Mata Jeeto ji -

Sri Maata Jeeto ji was eldest wife of Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj. Maharaj was engaged to Mataji when he was 8, by Guru Teg Bahadur ji. They got married at the age of 12 at Guru Ka Lahore near Sri Anandpur Sahib in 1677. Mata Jeeto ji was blessed soul, to get the title of eldest wife of Maharaj, always immersed in Sewa and Simran. Mata ji was very fond of gardening, and on Mataji’s wish, beautiful gardens were created all around Sri Anandpur Sahib where different flowers were grown. The Nursery of flowers was looked after by Mata ji herself, where different varieties of plants and flowers were brought from far away states and countries. While Satguru ji ordered Singhs to bring Shastars and Horses, Mataji asked Sangat to bring good plants, flowers and keep Anandpur Sahib clean.(Ref-Bhai Vir Singh,Kalgidhar Chamatkaar)

Such was Mataji’s Love for her Guru-Pati-Parmeshwar that she never had food without having Darshan of Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj. Waking up at Amrit Vela, Mata ji would make a beautiful Garland of flowers of different colours and fragrances and sit outside the room where Guru Gobind Singh ji sat in Samadhi, in his Nij-saroop. As Satguru ji used to open the door and come out, Mataji would first touch holy feet of Satguru ji, then have Darshan of beautiful, divine Face of her beloved Husband and put the garland of flowers around Maharaj’s neck. After that both Satguru ji and Mataji would go to Darbar and bless the Sangat.

As the Hukam of Akaal Purakh Waheguru prevailed, Maharaj had to marry Mata Sundari ji in 1685 at Paunta Sahib on Hukam of Mata Naanki ji ( Guruji;s Grandmother), from whom they had their first and eldest Sahibzada, Baba Ajeet Singh ji. All other younger Sahibzadey, Baba Jhujar Singh ji, Baba Zorawar Singh ji and Baba Fateh Singh ji were born to Mata Jeeto ji.
( It is said that First Sahibzada was destined to be born to Mata Sundari ji, and that was the reason for Maharaj having a second marriage with Mata Sundari ji.)

Mata Jeeto ji was taught Swas-Swas Waheguru Simran Abhyaas by Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj himself, which led to Mataji attaining BrahmGian at very early Age
( Ref- Sooraj parkash Granth).

From the very beginning she knew about the future as it would be, about the Shaheediya of Sahibzadey, destruction of Anandpur Sahib by enemies, Mataji’s Shaheedi, Guruji’s travels and all other incidents. When Sache Patshah ji created Khalsa Panth, Mata Jeeto ji brought Patase (Sugar crystal balls) and put them in Amrit da Baata, thus mixing sweetness in Amrit. Maharaj was pleased and thus blessed Mataji with title of Mother of Khalsa Panth.

Mata Jeeto ji went to Sachkhand on 5th December 1700, and her last rites were performed by Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj himself  at the place where Gurudwara Agamgarh Mata Jeeto Ji stands in Anandpur Sahib today. Before Mataji went to sachkhand, she placed her youngest son Baba Fateh Singh ji, who was just 2 years 17 day old in Mata Gujar Kaur ji’s lap and asked Mataji to take care of her sons, and make them so firm in Sikhi that when the time of sacrifice comes, they attain Shaheedi for dharma and Panth, making their forefathers proud of them.

Today, As Khalsa Panth stands at crucial juncture of history, we, the Sikhs have forgotten our Mother, who blessed us, gave us humility and sweetness, whose three sons attained Shaheedi for us.

Kotaaaan Kot Parnaam to Mother of Khalsa Panth – Dhan Dhan Mata Ajeet Kaur ji.

Baba Raam Koer ji was grandson of Baba Buddha ji and son of Baba Hardas ji. When Dasmesh Pita ji ascended to Guru Gaddi after Shaheedi of Guru Teg Bahadur ji, Baba Raam Koer ji gave Tilak of Gurgaddi to Guru Gobind Rai ji. At the time of Amrit Sanchar, Baba Raam Koer ji was present in Darbar. After choosing Panj Piare, Guruji started preparing Amrit with Khanda. Baba Raam Koer ji went to Mata Jeeto ji and narrated whole ‘Kautak’ (Miracle) of Maharaj to Mata ji and also said that Maharaj is preparing Amrit in Bir Ras. Hearing Babaji’s words, Mataji got up, took some Patase and went to Darbar where Satguru ji was preparing Amrit. Mataji went in front of Maharaj, bowed her Head and mixed those Patase in Amrit, to which Maharaj smiled and blessed Mataji to be Mother of Khalsa Panth. After putting Patase in Baata of Amrit, Mataji sat on left side of Maharaj till the Amrit was prepared and given to Panj Piare. Baba Raam Koer ji also took Amrit that day and was renamed Baba Gurbaksh Singh ji. Baba Gurbaksh Singh ji later narrated this incident to Bhai Sahib Singh ji, who compiled Sau Saakhi (Hundred stories of Tenth master). Mahakavi Bhai Santokh Singh ji wrote this ‘Kautak’ of Maharaj in Gurpartap Sooraj Granth.
 Kavi ji writes-

Then reading Baani and moving Kirpan in Baata of Amrit
Divine Power started coming out of Amrit
Said RamKoer, Listen O Saints!
As it happened in my presence

I went running to Mataji
Where was sitting Mata Jeeto, Treasure of Joy,
Sitting there, I told her whole story
The way Guruji was preparing Amrit.

Male sparrows died fighting each other (after taking drops from Baata)
As endless Power had entered their bodies
Now Guruji is reading Baani, rotating his Kirpan in Water
And he was going to give Khande di Pahul to all

Mata Jeeto thought in her blessed mind with pure intellect
Khalsa Panth, My Son is being created
I shall be there with my husband
Thinking this, she picked up sugar balls (patase)

She hastily came from house
To the place where Guruji was preparing Amrit
Looking at Her Husband’s face, she put them (Patase) in Water
To which, Satguru ji smilingly said.

‘ਭਲੋ ਭਯੋ ਤੂੰ ਚਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਆਈ
ਨੀਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਪਾਈ ਮਧੁਰਾਈ
ਨਾਤੁਰ ਪੰਥ ਹੋਤ ਬਡ ਕ੍ਰੂਰਾ
ਤੇਜ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਲਹਾ ਕਰਿ ਪੂਰਾ॥
It is a blessing you have come here
And put sweeteners in water
Otherwise Panth would have been ruthless
Full of Anger and destructive powers

They wouldn’t have cared for own and others
And would have kept fighting, day and night
Wouldn’t have sat with each other, with respect
And would have used weapons at all times

But now you have put sweeteners in Amrit
Therefore, they’ll love and respect each other
A child is always created by Man and Woman
Whole world knows this concept

Today, at the time of Birth of Khalsa
You came as Mother of Khalsa
Saying this, Guruji asked Panj Piare
To come forward, so that Mother could see her sons.

This was eyewitness account of Baba Gurbaksh Singh ji ( Raam Koer ji) which has been recorded by Mahakavi Bhai Santokh Singh ji in Sri Sooraj Parkash Granth, which was completed in 1843. This account clearly states that it was Sri Maata Jeeto ji, Eldest wife of Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj who blessed Amrit with Patase and Khalsa Panth with humility and love.

In 1880, Giani Gian Singh ji wrote Tawarikh Guru Khalsa, which was written as narrative and is possibly the first account which is in that form, with all earlier texts being poetic in composition. Giani ji writes -

Guru Gobind Singh put water of river Satluj in Sarabloh Baata, and got Panj Piare dressed in White Baana(clothes),Kach, Kirpaan etc. He made them stand in front of him and ordered them to concentrate on Sri Akaal Purakh Waheguru and recite holy Name of Waheguru. He himself started preparing Amrit by rotating Khanda in Iron Bowl in straight-edged position. Japji sahib was still not finished when Mata Jeeto ji, Guruji’s eldest wife, inspired by Baba Raam Koer ji, reached there with Patase(sugar balls), and putting Patase in Baata of Amrit, sat on left side of Guruji.

Gianiji writes next-

After completing Anand Sahib path and doing Ardas, Guru said to Mataji ‘’you have done a great deed of Dharam and Maryada that you have joined me in this process of Creating Khalsa Panth. To complete this great historic ceremony, your presence here with me was of utmost importance, Just like Waheguru creates Universe with his Shakti, Maya. We have created this Khalsa Panth in will of Waheguru.
( Like Waheguru creates Universe with his Shakti, We have created this Khalsa Panth, with you as form of Shakti).

So according to Sau Saakhi ( 1720’s), Sooraj Parkash( 1843) and Tawarikh Guru Khalsa(1880), Sri Maata Jeeto ji was the one who blessed Khalsa Panth with sweetness in form of Patase and was blessed with title of Mother of Khalsa Panth.

Sukhmani Sahib and Mahapurakhs

A human, on average takes 24000 breaths everyday. sri sukhmani sahib has 21624 words, and 273 words which ae used in the feet of the akhars. Aded toghether this makes exactly 2400 words. Dhan Guru Arjan dev jee has blessed us so much, and given us this gift of sri sukhmani sahib. Any one who reads one sri sukhmani sahib da paat , every breath they take is 'safal.'

So we may ask, what about mahapursh? They are on the avastha of swaas swaas simran, why do they need sri sukhmani sahib. In puratan and varatmaan itihaas we can see that mahapursh never let go of sri sukhmani sahib.

1. Sant kamal Singh of Kamalpur Used to recite Five sri sukhmani sahib paats everyday, and then used to get millions of paats done by the sangis there.

2.Sant Uttam singh jee used to recite sri sukhmani sahib all day from memory.

3. Sant nihchal singh ji, sant jawahar singh ji mittha tiwana, sant gulab singh noorpur, sant hardarshan singh used to recite two paats of sri sukhmani sahib everyday.

4. Baba nand singh jee used to listen to 5 sri sukhmani sahib de paat from their sewak. Baba Nand singh jee specialy recognised the power of sukhmani sahib. There was a time at nanaksar when kaljug wanted to interfere with the bhagti going on there. Baba nand singh did hukam to start a 24 hour , day and night sukhmani sahib paat akhand paat , which is still going 2day at nanaksar at the same place. Kaljug themselves said to baba ji , there is one thing i can't bear and that is sukhmani sahib ! Baba ji laughed and said you yourselves have given us the solution to the problem, we will now never stop sukhmani sahib here! In nanaksar great stress is laid on sukhmani sahib, and all mahapurshs of nanaksar ( baba isher singh ji, baba kundan singh ji, baba sadhu singh ji, poojniye baba gurdev singh jee and so on) do numerous paats of sri sukhmani sahib in their nitnem, and tell others to do it ( aap jape , avreh naam japaveh.)

5. Srimaan Vidya maartand Sant giani gurbachan singh jee khalsa bhindrawale used to read panj granthi everyday , which includes sukhmani sahib. while on long journeys doing parchar, many sewaks would fall asleep , but sant ji would not sleep until he had done sri sukhmani sahib da paat + nitnem etc.

6. In the sewapanthi Samparda, it is their maryada to do Sukhmani Sahib As nitnem ( 1 atleast) everyday.

7. Sant Hira singh jee recited sukhmani sahib their whole life.

8. A companion of Bhai Randheer singh Jee , bhai aatma singh jee , as soon as he used to wake up sri sukhmani sahib used to start in his surtee ( mind) and he used to complete it in 15 minutes.

9. Another interesting example is that of Sant Mani singh jee's ( birmingham) companion ,bhai amrik singh. He was sehajdhari at first but then took amrit. He became great friends with sant mani singh jee, and sometime later sant ji asked them " what is your nitnem?" out of humility he said he didn't feel right to answer such a question , but as they were a mahapursh he would have to comply. Bhai sahib jee said had an amazing spiritual jeevan. He used to do 5 Siri Sukhmani Sahibs a day plus 250 Siri Chaupai Sahibs a day other then his normal nitnem ( panj bania etc). Once he did Ardaas to do 50 Siri Sukhmani Sahib paaths for Bhai Mani Singh's health and he completed these paaths in 3 days. ( as per teachings of mahapursh , 50 sukhmani sahibs = 1 sri sehaj paat sahib. Baba Nand Singh jee used to give parshaad of bani to sangis - i.e. tell each sangi to read 2 sukhmani sahibs a day etc to make the full paath in the month.)

Satguru Sahib Kirpa karan, and bless everyone with the precious gift of sri sukhmani sahib Nitnem.

Bhull Chuk Muaaf,

Jivanpal Singh

The Great Gursikh Jeevan of Baba Khajaan Singh

Baba Khazaan Singh were the father of Sant Sunder Singh Bhindranwalay (11th Jathedhar of Guru Ji's Damdami Taksal). Sant Sunder Singh jee Bhindranwaalay was a great Gursikh who led an exemplary life, did massive parchaar of Sikhi, inspired countless to take amrit and taught Gurbani and Gurbani meanings to countless students, in his short life of 42 years or so. While many have heard about the Gurmukhi life of Sant Sunder Singh jee, few are aware of how great his father was. This is a feeble attempt by this insect to write something on the great life of Baba Khazaan Singh jee.

This is based on Dr Sher Singh's book on Sant Sunder Singh, Sant Gurbachan Singh's coverage of Sant Sunder Singh's life and oral narrations from Gursikhs from time to time.

Baba Khazaan Singh was the middle son of Baba Makhan Singh the grandfather of Sant Sunder Singh jee. Here are some highlights of Baba jee's jeevan:

1) Baba jee was a simple farmer who worked hard to earn bread for his family. He was from village Bhinder Kalan in Ferozepur district of Punjab.

2) Baba jee was extremely honest. He never let even a grain not belonging to him, come to his home. While working in his fields, he used to constantly do Naam Simran and Gurbani paath.

3) He got married to a very Gurmukhi bibi Mata Taab Kaur jee. She was not educated but due to her husband's satsangat, she developed keen interest and love for Gurbani.

4) Baba jee had great urge to have darshan of Guru Sahib. In year 1887, a year before the birth of Sant Sunder Singh jee, at the time of Avtaar Purab of Siri Guru Nanak Dev jee, Baba jee decided to go all out for darshan of Guru Sahib. He committed to doing strict amritvela and doing one Siri Sukhmani Sahib standing on one leg, 3 hours and 45 minutes before sunrise. Just few days had passed while engaging in day night paath like this that Baba jee was hit with extreme Bairaag. He gave up all interest in world and started doing bhajan day and night. At the behest of some gursikhs, who asked him to come in Sehaj Avastha, he started taking care of his worldly duties again.

5) Before the birth of Sant Sunder Singh, Baba jee did 36 lakh (3.6 million) jaap of Mool Mantr.

6) Later in his life he did 125,000 jaap of Siri Jap jee Sahib.

7) Later in his years he did 101 Paaths of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee in the span of 3 years. This means about 3 Sehaj paaths a month. Along with this he did 36 lakh paaths of Mool Mantr, all within 3 years. This means massive paath a day, for three years.

8 He used to do at least 100 angs worth of baani a day.

9) He used to do 3300 jaap of Mool Mantra a day.

10) He had about 100 angs of baani fully memorized.

11) He used to wear only Khaddar.

12) He was a very strict amritdhaari.

13) He never let a day pass without going to Gurdwara Sahib.

14) He used to eat only once a day at 10am.

15) Before eating food, he used to look for someone to share with. Reading the life of Baba jee, I was surprised. So much kamaayee and no one knows his name. I have no doubt that even today there are many gupt gursikhs out there about whom we know nothing. Hearing about kamaayee of Baba jee I feel like putting my nose in a chapnee and dying. May Guru Sahib do kirpa on us and may we lead our life like Baba jee and other great gursikhs.

(This is not translated by me, but a post i found many years ago on the internet.)

Satkaar of Guru Granth Sahib ji

It was the year of 1976, and Akhand Keertani jatha had a Kirtan Programme and Mehta Sahib. Akhand Paat Sahib Had Happened , but Guru Sahib had not been taken to sukhasan asthaan because a rehansabai was going on. At around 12 am that night, Sant Kartar Singh Jee and many other singhs ( sant jarnail singh etc.) were on the top of the langar hall building of Mehta Headquaters. Sant kartar singh jee were resting on a Manjaa at the time. All of a sudden the Manjaa toppled over and Sant Kartar Singh Jee fell on the ground. All the singhs were shocked at how the bed toppled over without sant jee moving or any one pushing it. Sant Jee without saying anything ran to the Diwaan and all the other Singh's followed.

Sant Jee told his Garrwai Singh to wash his feet. While the Kirtan was going on Sant jee did Sukhasan, Took Guru sahib jee to the Sukhasan Asthaan, brought another saroop of guru sahib then did parkaash. When Sant Jee went back into the diwaan, they did the following bachan to all the sangat there. That Guru Gobind Singh jee themselves got Sant ji by the ear and threw him off the manjaa and said , ' Kartaar Singh , you are the sewadaar of this place. It is your duty to do my sewa, but you are lying on a bed while Guru sahib Has been parkash for the past three days and sukhasan still had'd been done tonight. At the time Sant Ji were very upset and kept asking forgiveness at the Feet of satguru. They said to the sangat - Guru Granth Sahib Ji are God on Earth but why can't we even do their Satkaar properly? They are Akaal Purakh Vaheguru's Sargun form, blessing us moorakhs with their darshan.

Sant Gurbachan Singh jee’s Abhyaas of Gurbani

Sant Gurbachan Singh jee’s Abhyaas of Gurbani

One time Sant Kartar singh ‘premi’ asked sant Gurbachan Singh ji that any line we give from Guru Granth sahib you can automatically tell us which’ Ang ‘ it is on, how did your abhyaas of Gurbani get to this extraordinary stage? Sant ji said that before coming to Sant Baba Sundar Singh Ji he had done over 500 Sehaj Paats. This is something we all need incorporate into our lives; doing sehaj paat of Sat guru Granth Sahib Daily. If we ask any random Sikh, even many amritdharis, we see that many people have not even done Darshan under the Ramala sahibs of Guru jee, Let alone doing Complete darshan of Guru jee ( Sehaj paat.)

Once, when Sant jee were abit younger, they went to Singhawale Pind to do akhand paat raul. After doing their raul, Sant jee went to his Aasan and layed down and went to sleep. From the exact Pangti, ang they left their raul at, they started doing paat from there from memory in their sleep.

One time Sant ji went to Pind Rode to do Sri Akhand paat Sahib. Baba Hazara Singh, the elder brother of Sant Ji was also with them. Sant Jee did raul from 2am to 4am and then went to go to rest. Sant Ji had left his raul at this Pangti:

'aapae aap varathadhaa piaaraa aapae aap apaahu'

My Beloved Lord Himself pervades and permeates all; He Himself is, all by Himself.

While sleeping he started Paat from this exact pangti where he had left off. They read many angs. Bhai hazara singh brought all the other paati singhs and they were all left shocked at how Sant ji’s abhiaas of Gurbani was so advanced. When Sant ji was around 7 Years of age they had become a very good paati. Nowadays many people undermine Paatis, but being a proper paati is quite an accomplishment. Only such person can be called an Akhand Paathi who can do at least 60 angs in 2 hours i.e. one ang in 2 minutes. There is no easy way to become a Paathi. To be a Paathi, either one has to have Kamaayee from previous Janams, or pure Kirpa of Guru Sahib or do it the regular way - Hard work.

Before coming to Sant Baba Sundar Singh Jee , Sant Gurbachan Singh Jee used to to 5 nitnems everyday. Sant Sundar Singh Jee told them to do 1 themselves and listen to another from any singh. When asked why they did so many nitnems, their reply was that any nitnem I missed from childhood or when i was ill etc i am doing them now.

Sant Ji's life was ; Gurbani :
mai gurabaanee aadhhaar hai gurabaanee laag rehaao 8
I have the Support of the Word of the Guru's Bani. Attached to Gurbani, I survive. 8

Bhull chuk muaaf,

Jivanpal Singh

A Call to Arms - Honour of Spilt Blood

On 29th April 2011, whole world was gripped with fever of Royal wedding, wedding of Prince William of British Royal Family(second in line of succession to British Throne) . While most of the people enjoyed the wedding, I was feeling uncomfortable with all the euphoria, all the hype around this wedding. To be honest, I don’t have anything personal against the wedding or any of the people who were part of celebrations, but The Sikh inside me was bit disturbed and angry.

We Sikhs had a strong Kingdom, a strong Army, a vibrant and developed economy, Respect, honour, freedom, and pride, everything a free soul can dream of. Our elders, after a struggle of 80 years had established a Kingdom which was known as Khalsa Raaj, and whose government was known as Sarkar-Khalsa. Maharaja Ranjeet Singh ruled over Punjab and over hearts of Punjabis. But this Kingdom in North-Western India was the only which British could not win and enslave, while entire sub-continent lied in their feet. So, the honour-less, soul-less Generals were bribed and bought, Khalsa Fauj lost the battles it was destined to win, and on 10th February 1846, last pillar of Khalsa Raaj, Sardar Sham Singh Attariwala fell in battle of Sabhrawan. British Army marched to Lahore, Kesri Nishan was taken down and Union Jack hoisted over Lahore Fort, 5-year old innocent Dalip Singh was taken into ‘care’ by British, his helpless Mother Jind Kaur, beloved Queen of Shere-Punjab was arrested, dishonoured and humiliated in Jail and then sent away to a Jail in Uttar Pradesh in modern day India. From there, she would run away to Nepal, stay there for 12 years, cry day in and out in memory of her beloved son. She lost her eyesight. It’s a painful, long and heart-rending story of separation, humiliation, suffering, betrayals and Tears.

Well, we lost Our Kingdom to British Empire (which is still intact, full of its glory and grandeur, royalty and Pride). From that day, 10th February 1846 started a long story of bravery, chivalry, sacrifice and slavery. Free Souls, like Baba Maharaj Singh, Baba Raam Singh, Sardar Sher Singh and Chattar Singh Attari were captured and sent away to exile when they tried to free Punjab. Kookas, Babbar Akalis, Bhagat Singhs and Kartar Singhs were blown with canons and hanged to death when they fought for freedom. We Sikhs tried our best, but were always failed by those who were leading us. Don’t know why it happened to us Sikhs only? Why we had and still have so many Dhian Singh and Laal Singh Dogras, Teja Singh Bahmans, Tara Singh and Baldev Singhs, Harchand Singhs and Parkash Singh Badals. List of traitors is very long, very long, and interesting is the fact that we have been led by traitors from 1846 till today, more interesting is the fact that we know Traitors rule over us, but we have become so helpless that we are unable to remove them, throw them away from body of Panth. They are like Leeches, sucking blood of Panth, but Panth was and is so helpless that we are unable to remove those leeches.

In all this darkness, 132 years after Shaheedi of Sardar Shaam Singh Attariwala, Panth saw a ray of Hope, a breeze of fresh air, an atom of Life- Sant Baba Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa Bhindranwale (MHSICK).Santji woke up this nation of Lions, infused it with Spirit of Kurbaani, Sewa and Azaadi. It looked as if a Jathedar from 18th century had descended on Earth with His Misal. It was he who shook us, told us what Honour is, what freedom is and what value of Freedom is. I don’t have any words to describe him, Just that ‘May Waheguru keep him in Charhdi Kala, wherever He is’.

Inspired by his words, thousands got ready to walk on Path of Freedom, illuminated by blood of Shaheeds and Light of Sant Jarnail Singh ji.

The day was yesterdays, 29th April, but a different year and different century. On 29th April 1986, Khalsa Panth declared its Independence, and declared its War of Freedom. This struggle of Khalsa Panth was to re-create the Khalsa Raaj of Sarkar Khalsa, which was destroyed 140 years ago by British Empire. This was the war of brave hearts, war of wronged, war of born revolutionaries against ruthless Indian Empire, descendant of British Empire. Panth was alone in its struggle, with only support of Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. No military or economic or political power of world came to our help. Not even UN came to listen to our plight, because we our lives, our freedom didn’t matter to those who know just about business.

All this didn’t happen much time back, just a few decades ago, guns were blazing in Punjab and innocents were killed daily in hundreds. Lovers of Freedom were captured, tortured like beasts and killed like animals. Men, young and old were killed. Women were arrested, tortured and raped in police stations and interrogation centres of Punjab. So the blood flew, flew this much that a sixth river of blood flew on land of Punjab. 250,000 innocent Sikhs were killed in police stations, on banks of rivers and drains, in fields of Punjab, those very fields which had given food to Hungry India, filled empty stomachs of Indians and sufficed it with Food grains. Those hard working farmers of Punjab were killed in their very fields.

Human rights activists shouted at top of their voice to people of world, to nations, to so called custodians of Human Rights, to Royals and Powerful, but no one came to listen to our plight. No one came to share our suffering, to ask what was happening to us. Leave aside Indian police, courts, human rights groups, media, politicians, they had no reason to share our pain as we were and are nothing more than slaves to them,  but what hurt was, no one in so called democratic, developed western world raised a voice against atrocities and injustice being committed against us.

A time came; Freedom fighters and the great Generals leading them were all killed, by bullet, by deception, by treachery. Freedom Movement, which had begun to fulfil Ardas Khalsa Panth, did at Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib on 29th April 1986 come to a standstill. We weren’t killed by just bullets of enemies, we were killed by our own, who looked like us, we were killed by those who looked like our brothers , joined our ranks, but shot us at first given moment. Raavan had one brother who deserted him and led to his downfall, we had thousands of them, majority of whom are today well- setteled in western countries, enjoying the riches they accumulated from blood of Shaheed brothers.  Indian Empire won, its police and army, its brutality and injustice, its rapes and murders, its economy and its diplomacy won and we lost.

After a demolished Akaal Takhat, 2000 burnt saroops of Guru Granth Sahib ji, 10,000 dead innocents in Darbar Sahib complex and 35,000 more dead in Rural areas, we were still portrayed as Terrorists and world believed it. Then we hit back, killed the demon-goddess and another round of massacres started, with 20,000 killed all over India, and we were again shown as Terrorists.  Then we took up the Gun for our Honour and Freedom, for the spilt blood of brothers and sisters, and more 200,000 of us were butchered down, and again, we were shown as terrorists and world believed what our enemy said.

Yesterday as world watched Royal Wedding of those whose ancestors brought down our royalty, enslaved our people, brought down our Kesri Nishan, I was deep down, in memories of Lost Glory, of fallen brothers and sisters, of the Dreams which still live in Millions of eyes across the world. I don’t know how many remembered or celebrated ‘Declaration of Independence’ yesterday, how many thought about it, wrote about it, decided to do something about it, because nowadays we have thousands of ‘Day revolutionaries’.  These are the people who talk big about Sikhi and Freedom, about Khalistan and Revolution, about Santji’s mission and dreams of Shaheeds, BUT, only when it is convenient, when it will give them some fame and name, but don’t wish to do anything for it. They prefer talking and after talking, they are just normal people, who chill and hang around with friends, eat out, talk crap whole day and sleep soundly in the night. These are people who talk about tortures and Shaheediya, but fear CCTV’s in their respective countries,  who ask Sikh Naujawan of India to get up and fight and die, but are not ready to come to India themselves for even a month to ‘do something’ for Revolution.

But as someone said, Blood of Martyrs is never wasted, and I have firm belief, that blood of more than 250,000 Innocent Sikhs will not go waste. The dream they had, the mission they started, the journey they set upon, we have to fulfil that dream, to complete the mission, to finish the Journey. They bachans which Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa gave on 3rd June 1984 and Ardas which Khalsa Panth did on 29th April 1986 will be fulfilled one day. But for that day to come, I don’t know how many rivers of blood will flow, how many mothers and sisters and wives will have to go through pain of separation of their sons, brothers and husbands, how many fathers will lay down their lives on day their son or daughter is born.

Everyone wants to live, everyone wants to prosper, to have a good and peaceful life, a good social and personal life, but ever thought? Even those Shaheeds had personal lives, even they had dreams, even they had small wishes, I know of Sons whose fathers saw them only once, sons and daughters who never saw their fathers, mothers who lost all the sons they gave birth to, fathers who had to cremate their young sons, even they were human beings like us, even they could have lived their lives peacefully, but they preferred fighting it out in battlefield with the enemy and die than live. There were those who wanted to live, but were never given a chance by butchers and killed in cold blood.

We laying down our arms, we shying away from struggle, we making excuses for our weakness will be betraying those Shaheeds, those beloved sons of Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj. Time is coming, if you cannot do anything, then don’t pretend, and if you wish to do something, then do it properly.

We lost our glory, our honour, our Freedom in 1846, and in 1986, our elders introduced us to it again. They created the path with their blood, flesh and bones, and we just have to walk on this path and reach our destination. Its at the destination where Life awaits us, where Glory and Honour await us. To have a dream is a big thing, we Sikhs lost our dream in 19th century, but those Shaheeds of 1984 gave us our dream back. Today we have the dream; we just need to act to fulfil it.

Sant Baba Thakur Singh ji Khalsa’ Bachan are a guide, a inspiration and a ray of hope for all of us, that the blood which has been spilt, the blood which is being spilled, and which will be spilled in future will not go waste. There will be Khalsa Raaj, We will have Our Sarkar- Khalsa once again, and the Ardas done at feet of Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj will be fulfilled.

Paying homage to all the Shaheed Singhs and Singhaniya of present movement, I would end with the lines Maharaani Jind Kaur wrote towards Shaam Singh Attariwala to fight for Khalsa Panth’s Honour in Battlefield. It was at call of Queen Mother Jind Kaur that Sardar Shaam Singh Attariwala fought in battlefield of Sabhrawan and laid down his life for Freedom and Protection of Khalsa Raaj. Words of Poet –

Important Benti-2 -Wake up Now

People working against Sri Dasam Granth dont have any plans to stop here. Their plans go deep, to tar, to tear apart very fabric of Khalsa Panth. Panth stands on a principle, on a discipline. Hinduism is divided into sampardas and sects because they dont have any basic principle, any basic set of laws which guide them. This led to their division, which ultimately led to slavery of India for 1200 years. Guru Gobind Singh ji maharaj gave us certain principles, a maryada to follow, which will bring about discipline in our life. But today, we have gone beyond Guru's Hukam, Will and Wish. There are hundreds of big and small sects in Sikhs and there sre sects which broke away from Sikhi when they grew, like Radhaswamis, Narkdharis etc.

Before i write more, i would like to say something. One of my brothers shared my last benti on his wall. As usual, a Sikh who tries to tread middle path commented ''We should not talk about or shout about issue of Dasam Granth as it is not primary issue, but Khalsa ji should first strive to create an independent state of Khalastan and then the issues can be solved''. Typical of these people who try to tread middle path or are working with some ulterior motives. Someone should ask these people,

  •  Who were the ones who brought up issue of Dasam granth?

  •  Who divided panth into parts and raised finger on Akaal Takhat Sahib?

  •  Who has openly revolted against Khalsa ji?

  •  Who calls those sikhs, committed to Independent Sikh Nation and freedom of Panth, terrorists?

( Go in Sangat and raise these questions to Sangat)

These types of people have been let loose on FB and other websites to divert our attention from basic issue. Issue is Sri Dasam Baani. If Dasam Baani is fake, then our Amrit is fake, If our Amrit is Fake, then our Rehat Maryada, our distinct identity is fake. Then we are no better than undisciplined Hindus or divided Christians and Muslims. Beware of such people.

(Personally speaking, I would never take part in ANY movement, struggle or morcha which is taken out, carried by people who swear at my Guru's Baani, Baana, Amrit, Kakkars and Rehat Maryada. be it Khalastan or whatever. Khalsa will make Khalistan, not Malechs led by Lala Darshan. And We don't need their assistance to liberate our Panth, Our Kaum.)

Lets see who all stand against Panth and Sri Dasam Granth today.

  •     A UNKNOWN agency or group, which is out to break an destroy Khalsa Panth.

  •     Sects, Cults, Deras, Fake Babas and Dals led by Panth Dokhis, who want to see Sikhi finished.

  •     Corrupt Political leaders of Political parties.

  •     Treacherous Sikhs, agents, cats, touts living in India and planted by Indian agencies in 80's and 90's.

  •     Semi-literate sikh scholars , Gianis and Parcharaks

  •     Gullible , innocent Sikhs who are brainwashed by above mentioned people to rebel against Panth.

On line of fire of these agencies, organizations, individuals are :-

  •      Damdami Taksal of Guru Gobind Singh ji.

  •      Parcharaks, Gianis and Sewadars associated with Damdami Taksal.( Giani Balbir Singh, Giani Jangbir Singh etc.)

  •      Akhand Kirtani Jatha ( which believes in Puratan Maryada)

  •      Sant-Mahapurakhs who do Sikhi Parchar in Rural Punjab and carry out Amrit Sanchars.

  •      Nihang Dals, Scholars and Professors who have carried out research on Sri Dasam Granth.

Enemy knows our weakness and every time he strikes at our weakness, in most powerful way. He knows, we, The Sikhs are the ones who can be swayed easily. Just give a slogan '' PANTH IN DANGER'' and we'll pick our swords without thinking and go to street, hitting anyone and everyone coming our way, what if the next person is our brother.

Ever thought, Santji never blamed ONLY RSS for problems of Sikhs. RSS was well present at Santji's time and Santji used to call them Nikkar-dharis, Jan-Sanghi. Santji warned Sikhs of everyone, whole if Indian establishment, political parties and society as a whole. But We Sikhs didnt learn anything. Till late 90's, Congress was blamed for most of problems of Sikhs, and RSS-BJP was placed at number two. What happened that in few years, root of our all problems was shifted to RSS-BJP and Congress was given clean chit. RSS is our enemy, no doubt in that, but RSS is not our only enemy. What about Congress? What about communists?  But all our energy, all our resources, research, propaganda was diverted from Congress to RSS. And today, every Sikh who believes in Dasam Baani, in Puratan maryada, In Puratan Granths and rehitnaamas, in traditions of Sikhi is labeled ' agent of RSS'. Why? Who did this? And the Congress party, which demolished Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib, which butchered thousands in Delhi and other cities in November 1984, which led the massacre of Sikhs in Punjab from 1984-1994 has been forgiven of its sins. I wonder how this happened? Maybe this video will help you to understand what went behind the scenes.

After this day, Darshan Laala turned against Dasam Baani, was given patronage by Congress Government of Delhi, assisted by Sarna and party, given free hand in any type of Anti-Panth Parchar and even Z-plus security in India. Why?

Badal is bad, RSS is worse, but Darshan and congress are worst. Still there is no one out there who will expose them, show the world their real face, tell how this Masand with help of Delhi Masands has struck at very root of Sikhi, its institutions.

If standing for Baani of my Father Dasam Patshah makes me RSS agent, if speaking for my Shaheeds, my traditions makes me RSS agent, i am ready to be called one. Atleast i will not be known as a Traitor. Words have been used for us like Dasam granthi mafia, Vehlers, Terrorists and many more...but these words just make my resolve to fight against enemies of Baani and Panth more firm. We dont have any empire, any organization, any Jathebandi to back us, to support us, to finance us, we have just Our Satguru's Oat-Aasra, and thats the biggest power a Sikh can dream of.

We have our enemy, much stronger and sophisticated in front of us,bu we have to hold on, hold on till Guru Maharaj does Kirpa and sends His Blessed General Back, back to field, to destroy enemies of Panth, to demolish empires of evil , to raise Kesri Nishan High in Blue Skies.

And we cannot back down.

Its just that time to take on Nindaks of Guru, Dokhis of Panth is here, and if we run away from our duty now, if we didnt stand up for Guru Dasmesh Pita ji, Guru Granth Sahib ji, Khalsa Panth , then our Lives, our riches, our bodies, our Baana and Shastars...all are useless.....

Some More Bentiya to follow soon....
